ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
While the essential functions outlined below describe a significant portion of this position's assigned responsibilities, other functions and accountabilities may be assigned from time to time. In the spirit of coorperation and teamwork, it is expected that all employees will do whatever is necessary to further the mission and work of the organization.
- Strategy and Planning: In a collaborative process with the Board, develops and maintains a long-range strategic plan designed to meet the mission and vision of the organization and provides essentail leadership and direction in pursuit of its implementation.
- Program & Event Management: Provides leadership, inspiration, motivation and direction to staff, program volunteers, and those we serve through the execution of programs and events. Hires, selects, trains and mentors staff; evaluates staff performance. Develops sound management and human resource policies and procedures and implements them in a fair and consistent manner. Establishes operational benchmarks, sets timelines and obtains resources needed to achieve program and event excellence and accomplish strategic goals. Maintains an effective recruitment strategy to attract and engage volunteers that reflect the diversity of those we serve.
- Financial Managment: Develops and presents an annual operating budget to the board for approval. Provides the board with regular financial updates. Ensures that all financial reporting is completed accurately and in a timely manner and follows all financial and accounting protocols adopted and implemented by the board and CPA.
- Public Representation: Represents the interests of the organization. Develops effective partnerships within the community, other community benefit organizations and government. Raises awareness in the community of the CBO's programs and positive impact as a whole. Serves as the organization's primarty advocate and spokesperson. Cultivates and maintains effective relationships with the media.
- Fund Development: Researches and develops sources of funding to support the organization's effort in accomplishing its strategic goals and mission. Advises the board regarding the organization's long-term financial needs, assists them in the creation of a strategic fund development plan and takes a leadership role in its implementation. Prepares proposals and negotiates contractct with private and public entities within board approved guidelines.
- Board relations: Maintains open communication with the Board of Directors and keeps the board apprised of ongoing-organizational activities and needs. Consults with board on matters pertaining to organizational strategy, plannin, funding, and policy. Assists in the cultivation of a strong, inclusive board with the passion and skills essential to achieving the mission and vision while representative of the communities.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- A proven commitment to the mission and vision of the CBO.
- Knowledge and experience in the development and implementation of strategic plans in partnership with board members, staff and stakeholders.
- Skill and comfort in communicating orally and in writing with groups of all sizes, in person as well as through electronic media.
- Experience in mentoring, training, motivating and providing leadership and direction to others including staff and volunteers.
- An understanding and proven track record in fund development and community relations.
- Thorough experience in organizational development.
- The ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Demonstrated analytic and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks and ability to thrive in a deadline driven environment with frequent changing priorities.
- An understanding and ability to work effectively with a community based board of directors.
- Expertise in computer programs and software and a basic understanding of volunteer and donor management software.
- Must have a valid California driver's license; maintain state minimum levels of auto insurance, a clean driving record, the ability to be covered by the agency's insurance arrier and reliable transportation.
- Must be fingerprinted and capable of passing a Department of Justice background check upon hire.
